CERTICOM'S MOVIANVPN CAPTURES "BEST OF SHOW" AWARD AT INTERNET WORLD WIRELESS 2001

movianVPN Demonstrates Wireless VPN Access to Corporate Intranet and Wins Best Client Software Award

HAYWARD, Calif., March 5, 2001 - Certicom (Nasdaq: CERT; TSE: CIC), a leading provider of e-business security, won "Best of Show" for client software with its movianVPN product at Internet World Wireless 2001 in New York, NY on Thursday, February 22, 2001. The award was selected by an editorial panel from Internet World Magazine, a publication by Penton Media. The judges reviewed products from over 170 exhibiting companies showcasing the latest wireless software, equipment, technologies and applications.

"The movianVPN team at Certicom is excited and honored with winning the 'Best of Show' award at Internet World Wireless," said Richard Depew, executive vice president of Certicom. "We continue to receive an overwhelming response to movianVPN from companies in a wide array of industries and we believe this is further evidence that our movianVPN product will be the de facto client software for wireless VPNs."

movianVPN allows companies to extend critical enterprise applications such as e-mail and customer resource management (CRM) tools to mobile professionals using popular Palm OS(r) 3.5 or Windows CE 3.0-based devices. movianVPN was honored due to its ability to work with existing IPSec and IKE standards and popular enterprise gateways as well as for the degree to which it addresses a market driven need.

Internet World editor in chief Tony Rizzo commented on the Internet World Wireless Awards by saying, "Today's winners exemplify the high level of innovation in the emerging wireless Internet industry," said Internet World. And the sheer number of quality offerings on the show floor made this a challenging task for our editorial team."

While VPNs have been popular for several years, movianVPN is the first VPN solution to truly extend wireless client capabilities to the enterprise by interoperating with a vast array of the industry's leading installed VPN products. Cisco Systems, Inc. and Nortel Networks will be enabling Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) versions of their gateways for fast performance. The client is also interoperable with versions of products from other industry leaders including Alcatel, Check Point Software Technologies, Intel Corp. (currently WinCE only), Radguard, and Symantec (formerly AXENT Technologies). movianVPN protects existing network security investments by enabling IT professionals to leverage their existing VPN infrastructures and include handhelds in their corporate security policy for remote access.

movianVPN is simple to install and configure and features an easy to use graphical user interface (GUI). In addition, the client features a small footprint on the device, a pull down menu for the gateway and detailed server configurations for the IT manager. Connecting to the gateway is quick and easy. Users can connect to a wireless network (Cellular, CDPD, PCS or GSM) that supports IP data service or through a wired modem to their ISP.
