CERTICOM TO PROVIDE EXTENSIVE SECURITY TO TEXAS INSTRUMENTS' OMAP™ WIRELESS PLATFORM

Technology to Enable Secure Communication on 2.5G and 3G Handheld Devices

Mississauga, Ontario (May 22, 2002) - Certicom (Nasdaq: CERT and TSE: CIC), a leading provider of wireless information security solutions, today announced that Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) has licensed Certicom security solutions for its OMAP wireless platform. TI's OMAP platform, a highly advanced processing architecture, sits as the core of 2.5G and 3G mobile devices, including wireless handsets, PDAs and advanced mobile Internet appliances.

With Certicom's advanced security technology available in the OMAP processors, mobile device manufacturers can integrate strong, standard-based cryptography into core applications without sacrificing performance. Additionally, by offering Certicom's standard application programming interfaces (APIs), TI allows its large network of developers to build enhanced, state of the art security into services across a wide variety of environments.

"As a key member of TI's OMAP Developer Network, Certicom will provide wireless device manufacturers with advanced security solutions optimized for the OMAP platform," said David Potts, worldwide applications director for TI's OMAP platform. "Both carriers and users of 2.5 and 3G mobile devices powered by OMAP processors will benefit from the added voice and data security created though the cooperation of TI with leading security developers like Certicom."

Certicom will add more than 30 state-of-the-art cryptographic functions to the OMAP platform from it's Security Builder® toolkit, including ultra secure and high performance cryptography such as AES and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC). These security functions will be ported and optimized for the OMAP architecture resulting in the most efficient code execution and direct access to on-board cryptographic hardware acceleration.

At the communications layer Certicom will add SSL Plus™ and WTLS Plus™, which provides Internet browsers in next generation wireless devices secure access to almost any service on the web. Certicom's Trustpoint™ Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) tools allow users and applications to be strongly authenticated in the new wireless world.

"This collaboration with TI expands Certicom's global market reach and reinforces the Company's strong competitive position and future growth opportunities," said Ian McKinnon, President and CEO of Certicom. "TI's OMAP platform will enable manufacturers, carriers, and application developers to deliver compelling and secure 2.5G and 3G applications and services to millions of devices. We are very pleased to work with TI in helping to make security a key component of these next generation wireless devices and applications."

Based on more than ten years of wireless system expertise, the OMAP wireless processors provide mobile device manufacturers and application developers with unparalleled flexibility by supporting popular operating systems and programming languages such as Symbian OS™, Microsoft® Windows® CE, Palm OS™, Linux®, Java™, ARM® Instruction Set, C/C++ and leading wireless communication standards such as GSM, GPRS, UMTS, EDGE, WCDMA and CDMA2000. The OMAP platform delivers unparalleled processing performance and battery life so that consumers can enjoy a wide range of compelling wireless products and services such as multimedia messaging, streaming media, secure m-commerce, location-based services and interactive gaming in a sleek wireless PDA or phone.
