SENDO LICENSES CERTICOM TECHNOLOGY TO SECURE NEW, FEATHERWEIGHT MOBILE PHONES FOR EUROPEAN AND ASIAN MARKETS

Certicom to Integrate WTLS Plus into the WAP Browser for Sendo's Cutting-edge GSM Handsets

CTIA Wireless 2001, Las Vegas, NV, March 22, 2001 - Sendo, the new global mobile phone manufacturer, and Certicom (Nasdaq: CERT; TSE: CIC), a leading provider of mobile e-business security, today announced that Sendo is utilizing Certicom's leading security technology to secure their new lightweight, Internet-enabled Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) mobile phones for the European and Asian markets. Sendo has licensed Certicom's WTLS Plus(tm) to integrate into its WAP browser, ensuring that the delivery of critical, leading-edge content remains highly secure.

"Certicom's leadership in WAP and wireless security enables Sendo to provide our customers globally with strong security from a name that is recognized internationally," said Hugh Brogan, CEO of Sendo. "Certicom's experience in developing highly efficient products that fit within the constraints and complexities of mobile devices lead to a sure fit for our WAP phones."

Sendo's new line of Internet-enabled mobile phones includes the featherweight A820, the world's smallest and lightest WAP-enabled GSM phone. By using Certicom's security technology in its browser, Sendo will provide a more secure platform for protecting valuable electronic content from theft. Certicom's WTLS Plus provides the most advanced, standards-based, proven encryption available today.

Using WTLS Plus, Sendo's A820 will be among the first phones to offer WTLS Class 2, the next step in m-commerce security. As part of today's announced agreement, Sendo will also use Certicom's Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) technology and will include support for Certicom's MobileTrust(tm) digital certificates in Sendo's WAP mobile phone security architecture. Supporting Certicom's MobileTrust root key in the security architecture demonstrates a clear migration path towards wireless Public Key Infrastructure (w-PKI), and will enable Sendo to provide secure, authenticated WAP transactions such as stock trading, retail purchasing and personal banking.

"We believe Sendo is on the cutting-edge in providing today's consumer with innovative wireless products such as lightweight easy-to-use, Web-ready phones," said Prakash Panjwani, vice president of business development for Certicom. "We are pleased to provide a vital component to support Sendo's wireless products internationally, and in particular, the European and Asian markets."
